Myofunctional Therapy is exercise based therapy that uses a combination of physical therapy exercises to improve breathing, swallowing, tongue and airway development. People of all ages can experience oral dysfunction. Habits can be hard to break. Treatment is customized based on age and individual symptoms.
My mission is to help promote proper nasal breathing, tongue and airway function, chewing, swallowing and other myofunctional concerns in children and adults. When you have correct tongue function and airway development your whole body will benefit.
People of all ages can experience orofacial dysfunction. Habits can be hard to break. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can be instrumental in helping a developing tongue and airway. A consultation can be very valuable. General health, speech, orthodontic, dental health, swallowing and breathing issues may persist for many years. Therapy can help you make necessary changes that will benefit you throughout life.
My goal is to build awareness and strengthen the oral and facial muscles to meet these important goals:
1) Getting the tongue resting in its proper position
2) Keeping the lips closed when the mouth is not in use,
3) Optimizing healthy chewing
4) Utilizing a proper initial-phase swallowing patterns.
When these tasks are accomplished habitually, troublesome symptoms can be alleviated, and issues related to speech, TMJ/jaw problems, sleep apnea, orthodontics, digestion, etc. are more easily managed.
You or your child could exhibit one or more of these myofascial symptoms. Typically, you will need to treat the cause of the symptoms, by seeking myofunctional therapy.
